He's Inherited the "LOOK"

This is classic Weststrate.

Out of almost 4 thousand entries...

I entered this photo of Jay into a Shutterfly contest...a Black & White photo contest...I love this picture, I'm very proud of it...and even though it was originally taken in colour, i tweaked it a little and I LOVE the finished product.

Out of almost 4 thousand entries, this photo is in the top 25 (finalists)...I don't CARE if I win (though it'd be sweet), but just knowing that this photo is good enough to contend with others out there and be in the top 25 makes me SMILE!
YAY! I guess the winners will be announced on the 28th...we'll see what happens :)
All of the prizes are pretty awesome, but honestly I'm just happy to say that it's gotten this far :)

LOOK AT THIS HAIR!

All of a sudden...in the past month, maybe month and a half, this hair has just gone wild growing out of Jay's head. And it's BLONDE! And it's going a little curly...awwwww!
I guess it'd be best to show you comparisons...side by side...okay, we'll see what I can do:

So the one on the left is Jay at about 4 months old (November) and the one on the right was 2 days ago. (February)

He's grown so much!
LOOK AT HIS CHEEKS!

Big goregous chubber cheeks :)

The boy with the very big head...

Jay is growing like a weed!
We take him in for his well-baby checkup on March 6th (oma's birthday) and I'm anxious to see how much my chubber has grown.
The last time we went in for a checkup, the stats were pretty high! He's quite a tall baby for his age, but he's very average for weight (which surprised me...he has so much squishy chub!).
There has always been one constant throughout Jay's whole life...his head.
He has a HUGE head.
I mean he's in the 95% (percentile) for head circumfrence (sp?)...which means even though my beast is only 8 months old his head is the size of a 24 month old child. I know this because every hat I've ever put on his head has got to be at least 2 sizes bigger than everything else. For example, the frog hat in the following pictures, is an 18-24 month hat...and thankfully it's still a little loose, that way when he grows a little bigger so he can wear the rest of the frog outfit, he'll still be able to stick his HUGE noggin in that hat:)

Oh, and I had to add...he has his father's head. My sweet mother in law told me that Chris also had a HUGE head as a baby. :) (oh, and just as a reminder...I didn't have a c-section...that head came out...you know)
LOL!

Our weekend

So, this past weekend we decided (totally last minute) to take a quick trip to Michigan to see Chris' family and especially his grandmother.

It was an 'interesting' trip (to say the least) and I'm only saying that because our little Jay Connor had a few 'episodes' of (what we lovingly dub) "THE ANGER"

Anyway, it all started out okay...

Jay and I, right before leaving the house in the shwa, cool, calm, collected and hair still wet (mine...not his)
A well deserved rest at the first Michigan rest stop just over the border...my nerves were running away with me (as they always do) and we stopped for a little bathroom break and to stretch our legs...no, we are not pulling a Britney Spears by driving with Jay on our lap.

A few self portraits of the family...they didn't quite work out too well...but you get the drift:)
A self portrait of yours truly, doing what I do best...look silly
Jay happily plays with his book...

And then passes out.

After we got to our 'final destination', it was time to just relax with family and let Jay get his wiggles out. He was happy to play with Kenzie and Hailee and was just thrilled to see his Papa, Nana & Aunt Jaime.

The next day started out fine, he was in a decent mood, but he had been working on this awful stuffy nose and it was killing his appetite and making him kinda grumpy...(we took this pic just because we love the bib...that's all)
That evening, Jay had been running on very few naps (he refused to take any) and was just cranky. We tried our best to entertain him and then try to calm him down...
Jay with daddy
Jay and Hailee...
Hailee is such a sweetheart, she just LOVES her "hey boy" (cousin) and took every chance she could to kiss up on him and play with him.
This is Jay riding his 'pony'...all the other kids were doing it :)
Upside down time with daddy...I do NOT like this stuff, but Jay loves it.

TIRED Beastie
Okay, here's the best part of the whole weekend (ok, not the *best*, but definetly the most memorable and funny!)

Jay was taking a bath on Sunday evening and was almost done, when Hailee came into the bathroom. She was ready for her turn...but instead of getting Jay out, I suggested to Jaime that we just put her in with him and they could play...

Jay was not amused.

He started bawling...he was jealous and angry...so much so that he was just kicking a fit in his bathseat and we just had to take him out.

He was just so bothered that Hailee was in *HIS* tub...he wouldn't have it! Silly boy...but seriously now, I'm going to have to keep a tight rope on that jealousy thing. He had issues with Hailee sitting in Nana's lap and was furious when daddy picked Hailee up! Ugly little green monster!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay...so this is this morning (monday) . Jay and I had an awful night. He and I were awake with each other till about 4 am, when I crawled into where Chris was sleeping and *begged* him to take Jay... (sure enough as soon as Chris gets him...Jay falls asleep).

So, before we left on Monday morning, we took some pics of all the cousins together.

Jay had seemed to forgive Hailee for *intruding* on his bath and his Nana...(eyeroll)
I just simply love these pictures...Nana (Jo) took them on her camera and I had to swipe them. Jay looks simply goregous!

And of course, our weekend would not be complete without a few pics of Jay with his grandma!
Some of the four of us...

And of course Chris, Jay & I with grandma.
All in all, we had a great weekend...it was relaxing (except for the insanity of this morning and being exhausted all the way back to the shwa).

Highchair antics

Now THIS is one happy boy. Lets tell a bit of a story behind this big ol grins and giggles.
Someone has funk in his pants...and is hiding it from mama and frankly, he's as pleased as punch to sit in his funk.

My son does not care to have his diaper changed.
He would rather sit and fester in his 'creation' rather than get his buns cleaned and changed.
Clean pants? Oh no...that would be BAD , especially if you are Jay Mortenson.

So a few days ago, after his dinner, Jay was so happy and content to just chill out in his highchair and play with his toys that I figured it was best to just leave him be rather than risk the 'evil'.

So I wheeled him into the computer room and wrote some emails while he played happily.

Then came the funk.

And it was BAD.

SO I tried to get him out, tried to change his buttinski and frankly he woudl not have any of it.

I want to fully document these events that way when he's 16, bringing a girlfriend home to visit, I can thoroughly embarass him by reciting these tales of "dirty boy", when he would not allow me to do my duties and then making a MESS of whatever area he was in.

Revenge.

It's sweet...:)

Jay meet Elmo...

Jay got this little wind up Elmo right after he was born...but he's never really played with it at all. Last night we were being adventurous and digging out all kinds of toys and books and having a grand old time playing in the crib. I brought elmo out, wound him up and set him in front of Jay. Hey there buddy...you're playing some pretty neat music. And I like your style, red is my favourite colour!
Mind if I taste your eyeballs?
Yeah...he's cool...he can stay in here with me!

Jay kept Elmo in the crib all night, and this morning was playing with him happily.

I think we have a new best friend :)

Baby and Daddy

This is my new favourite picture of Jay and Chris together.
I also tried to do a little photoshopping on the pic and make both of their eyes stand out...Jay's blue eyes stand out better than Chris' brown...but it's still worth a shot!

:)

Crawling...

Someone has started crawling FORWARDS!

Guess who?

I Scream, You Scream...We All Scream for ICE CREAM!

Yesterday for dessert, my parents had some ice cream...and Jay got invited to try some out.
He wanted to get right into it, he kept touching it...brrr...COLD! Mmm, that stuff looks kind of good, mind if I try?Oh yeah, that tastes great! I've got it all over my face now!
Me and my Oma, she's so nice, giving me all kinds of goodies!
Here's my Opa-Opa...letting me try some of his orange sherbert...His mouth is bigger than mine!
Look at my Opa and my Opa "squared"...both of their mouths are hanging open...I know what I'm doing you guys!
